A Natural Remedy For Mange

My adorable, chunky little Yorkie somehow managed to acquire mange.  After some research I discovered it is caused by a tiny little mite.  I was noticing her itching like crazy, and developing almost a cradle cap type of buildup on her skin, and it smelled.  Then the tufts of hair all over the house, and scabs on her body. 

I hate to use chemicals on her as her skin is so sensitive, so I tried using lavender essential oil and soy gel, but that only helped relieve the symptoms for short periods of time.  I even tried rubbing cooking oil on her skin in places where she itched the most, but that too only worked in short time spans.

My online research found that Neem is a good, all natural way to rid the dog of mange.  While most seemed to find it worked, a few folks said it had not.  At this point I was willing to try it.

SwissJust sells a new Neem product for children who get head lice.  I purchased the shampoo, lotion and spray.  Now, I opted to not use the lotion because the instructions say to put it on the child's head and wrap it in plastic wrap for 90 minutes.  There is no way this dog was going to allow for that, so instead I used the shampoo.  I gave her a bath, lathering and rinsing twice.  The second time I left it on for 3 minutes as the directions indicated, then rinsed and towel dried her.Then I sprayed the spray on the scabbed areas and areas she had been itching.

Keep in mind this dog has super sensitive skin that would get very dry and flaky. 

She went a full week with no itching, and the tufts of hair stopped falling out! The scabs were healing very nicely too.  Now, after about 9 days she developed that smelly, ear wax like build up (cradle cap) on her skin in places and was starting to itch again. I don't know the life cycle of the mite so I figure eggs were layed that have now hatched so I bathed her again yesterday.  Again, no more itching and the skin is in great shape, no flaky dry areas. 

I am happy to report that this product seems to work very well for fighting the mange!  I will be recommending it to anyone with a mangy pup!
