MagiX Product Review & Give Away!

I am a stickler about my makeup.  I know, probably vain of me, but if I am going to put on a face in the morning, I want it to look the best possible. 

One of my pet peeves when it comes to my makeup is shine.  I do NOT like to have shiny spots at all, I just want a  nice, flawless finish.  But my skin has areas that while they don't feel oily, when I put on makeup they sure look it!  Too much powder trying  to tone that down and I look like I have a ton of foundation on when in fact I do not!

As a representative I have seen Avon's MagiX Face Perfector in the catalogs but just never thought to give it a try.  Honestly, it wasn't a product that I gave any attention to so I wasn't even certain what it would do.  Then one day when searching for a past article in our representative catalogs for upcoming products I stumbled on the MagiX.  I decided to give it a try.



It goes on as a gel and dries almost instantly to feel powder smooth.  I put it on after cleansing, serum and moisturizer.  Those alone tend to make my skin feel kind of oily.  Immediately I noticed NO shine where I had the MagiX applied.  (by the way, it sports an SPF 20!)

I followed up with my Avon ideal Flawless foundation, then my blush and finally loose powder.  I am VERY impressed!  That was 5 hours ago and still, no oily shine.  Just a nice, smooth look to my face and makeup.  I am SO glad I decided to give this a try. 

Another positive, you can wear this product with or without makeup! Just put it on after your moisturizer to give you a nice, matte finish!

Those of us in Avon are getting full of holiday excitement already!

Last week I attended the first of the Come Home For The Holidays events hosted by Avon each year so that Representatives can preview the new items coming out over the next few months.  And WOW WOW WOW!

WHY I Am An Avon Lady

It seems like SO long ago I was going to work every day in an office.  For 26 years I worked for a company, spending a good deal of time at a desk, in front of the computer, working in that office away from my family.  I missed a lot of important times in my children's growing up years because I HAD to work, we needed the income.

After the economy went belly up, so did that job I had worked at for so long.  I took a job managing an office for a painting company, but when late Autumn hit the job was done.  Then I went to work for a heating and air company, but they went the way of the economy. 

In an effort to generate some income I made the decision to start in-home childcare. Within a week I was watching 3 kids, all siblings.  I picked up a part timer after school and an infant after the holidays that year.  Not too bad, but that left me feeling like the walls were closing in on me.  I was home, all day, sun up to sun down.  I loved watching them, make no mistake about it, but it didn't get me out of the house.  My conversations were about characters in the popular children's television shows. I needed to do something that would get me out of the house when possible.

I had always loved Avon products so I decided to look into being a representative.  Imagine my shock when I found out it was only $10 to start my own beauty business.  I met with Renee, my 'upline' person, learned a lot in an hour, and I was off!  No inventory, no big expense, just $10 out of my pocket and I had my kit, I was an Avon lady.  And I was excited!

Immediately my mom and sister decided this was an opportunity for them as well, and they signed up! I was already building a downline and I quickly found a few customers.  This was pretty easy, so I stuck to it. 

One of the first benefits was the monthly district sales meetings.  I was connecting with other women, having intelligent conversations and learning about running my own business in a very fun atmosphere.  This group of women made me feel like one of the team, applauding accomplishments, sharing ideas, it did a lot for my need to have something outside of the house, a hobby of sorts.

It was early on that I saw the potential for real income with Avon.  While some women do it just for the hobby or outside interest, I saw the opportunity to make this a career.  I started looking at the top sellers, and the 'rich and famous' of Avon.  The Lisa Wilber and Barb Avery types.  I read their web pages and blogs, watched them in videos, listened to them in interviews and thought to myself, "if they can do this, so can I!".  These were not people that went to Harvard for business degrees, these were  average gals with a dream and some desire to achieve those dreams for themselves.  And OH have they achieved the dreams.

I knew what I wanted, I wanted to work for ME.  To sleep in some days if I wanted too.  To be my own boss and not have to answer to anyone else if I wanted a sick day because I was sick of doing anything at all.  And I wanted financial independence, freedom to buy what I want when I want it.

Not being one to reinvent the wheel, I started to study the things the top achievers like Lisa and Barb were doing.  I kept going back and listening to their interviews, reading things they suggested, and I began to apply those things.  And with that, I began to see some success.

I also started to gain something I've struggled with...self confidence.  Every sale, every recruit, every mile stone I've achieved has fueled my self confidence.  I look at myself in the mirror and I KNOW I can do this, and that one day I will be up there in the top ranks, and my name will be a household name among the other Avon representatives.  That people will want to know how I achieved my goals.  I KNOW without a doubt that I can have my dreams, my 'whys' for even starting this.  I know this because I've seen others that have done it, and I've seen the beginnings of the mile stones starting to be achieved for myself.

Once school got out this year, I stopped watching children and launched into Avon full time.  The first thing I realized is I don't have to work 40 hours at this every week.  I can do this 25 hours a week IF I really work it for those time periods.  And I realized that this can be a part of everything I do each day.  If I am out window shopping, I am prospecting other women!  If I am at the library, I will talk to anyone about this opportunity.  If I pass women at the coffee shop, I give them each a brochure and get their contact information so I can touch base to get their orders. Every where I go there is opportunity!  And I can do it all day, every day, any chance I have while going about my LIFE.  Yes, I have a LIFE and I'm LIVING that life while achieving my dreams and whys.

The best part is I get to help other women (and a few good men!) do the same thing! Spend more time with family, really LIVE life while making the money, achieving their dreams and goals, or  just enjoying a hobby.  Whatever it is they want to get out of this opportunity, I am helping them and making life long friends a long the way.

DING DONG? Yes, Please!

While yesterday was in fact my first official day as 'just' an Avon Lady, today was my first real full time day of working it.  I love my job,  no doubt about that.  I've loved this since the day I signed up a year ago.  However I REALLY love this job today.

Right out of the gate I called the customers that I had orders for and set up time to deliver their products and collect the money.  I enjoy this time, I love meeting new people that phoned in orders and I really enjoy the smiles when I show up with their goodies. 

Because my sister is full time as an Avon representative, we went out together.  It is a lot more fun with a partner in crime so to speak.  We book bombed (tossed) 1000 Avon brochures  throughout various neighborhoods on our side of town while we delivered the orders.  I even enjoy that part,  it is like spreading seeds in a garden of customers.  It doesn't hurt that the two of us can find fun in just about anything we do together.

Then we began the process of prospecting.  We took many ideas from our recent leadership training workshop we had attended a few weekends ago, putting into practice approaching strangers,  leaving prospecting flyers under windshield wipers, and sticking notes with our contact stickers on them and hand written,  "Need $$? Call me, I'm hiring!" on ATMs, pop machines and newspaper stands.  The goal is always to talk to as many folks as possible, and get contact information.  Once we have contact info they are considered a lead.  We each got 5 leads today and countless unknown ones from the fliers, stickie  notes and book bombing.  It was a GREAT day. 

The best part was we slept in,  getting out of bed when we darn well felt like it!  Then we were able to socialize and window shop all day,  all the while talking to a lot of very wonderful women about Avon.  Every single woman we spoke with said the same thing, they did not have an Avon representative!  I'm told only 13% of the women in my area are serviced by an Avon Lady or Man, which means a huge potential customer base.  I have so much work to do!  :)

I LOVE MY JOB!!!

Product Review: Skin So Soft Bug Guard Plus IR3535

As an Independent Sales Representative for Avon, I am given an opportunity to preview products  before they hit the brochures.  Recently the preview was for our Skin So Soft line of insect repellents.  As someone that likes being outside, especially on the back of a motorcycle, I decided to put our Bug Guard Plus to the test.

The first time I tried the Bug Guard Plus IR3535,  "Cool 'N Fabulous" SPF 30 Lotion Disappearing Color. The disappearing color is great if you need to ensure that sun sensitive skin is completely covered as the blue color stays on the skin for a few moments before vanishing. It is, as it says, very water resistant.  This is an ideal product if you have little ones that swim or are outside playing sports.  For my taste, I cannot stand the scent. I am pretty sensitive to smells and didn't care for it at all.  If I were swimming or had little ones I'd use it but for me personally, no thanks.

This past weekend I used the Bug Guard Plus IR3535 "Gentle Breeze" SPF 30 Lotion.  I'm sold, hooked, LOVE  this stuff.  The scent was pleasant, doesn't smell like a sun screen to me.  And it works.  I applied it once around 11:30am yesterday, then got on  my honey's Harley with him and rode all day, in the sun.  When I returned home last night I had tan lines but no sunburn whatsoever.  It should be noted that being a natural blond with very fair skin I tend to burn easily.  I haven't gone to a tanning bed in over 2 years,  so I had zero base for protection.  Not a single red spot!  Add to that the fact that mosquitoes see a 7 course meal with a super decadent dessert when they spot me, and not a single bite anywhere even though I came home and spent time sitting outside for a while. I am totally sold on this product.

HELP ME RAISE THE $$$

Today is day 4 of training for the Avon Breast Cancer Walk on October 27-28th in Charlotte, NC. Yes I am from Cincinnati but there is not a walk here this year with Avon. Chicago is closer but that one is in June, not an adequate time frame to train to walk 39 miles. 79 days won't cut it, I need the 226 to get this couch potato body in shape and ready for that kind of workout. We walk 26 miles on day one, sleep in little tents in the wellness village, then walk 13 more miles the following day. I think we're supposed to drop dead after that, not sure but I know my body may just give up the ghost if I don't prepare properly.

2 miles so far each day, and my legs would like to disown me and head for another couch.

Part of participating is raising at least $1,800 to be donated to the walk. My personal goal is $2,500. The Avon Foundation for Women, that is hosting/sponsoring this walk, has donated over $740 million to this cause since the walks started in 2003. This cause is very near and dear to my heart so I am determined to raise the funds for it.

PRODUCT REVIEW: Avon Advanced Techniques Professional Hair Color

Back in the 70′s, Avon sold hair color.  I’m not certain why but they stopped at some point.
Beginning in campaign 9, Avon is once again in the home hair color business.  As representatives we were given a free product, color of our choice, to try.  Being natural blondes around here, we are touching up roots often, as we dye our hair a cherry-cola color.  Red dye fades a bit fast, and when your roots are naturally very light, as they come in it can make your hair look like it is thinning rapidly.
My sister, Jeannette, and I use the same store-bought hair color.  We both chose the same color from Avon, that is closest to what we were using.  This is our review:

Avon Advanced Techniques Professional Hair Color used:  Medium Mahogany Brown 5.65
Marti:  I will be the first to admit that I was skeptical about this product.  Until last November I had never ‘dyed’ my hair.  I am a natural blond and I’ve had highlights done for years, but back around Thanksgiving I decided to go ‘cherry cola’ in color.  As I have no experience, my sister dyes my hair for me.  She has been coloring hers and her daughters for years.  With 4 days to go til my son’s wedding, I figured I was nuts to do this, unsure what to expect,, but my roots needed done so figured what the heck, we have the free color from Avon, let’s give it a shot.  Since it was going to be a bit different, we opted to dye it as a color change.  Both of us used the same color tonight.

Jeannette:  Having used and applied well over 10 different brands of home hair colorant over the years (likely everything on the market), this is the most unique I have ever come across.   Never have I heard of or seen a pre-treatment with hair color.  The rule was start out with clean, dry hair.  I was skeptical as this pretreatment made the hair kind of wet.  That worried me, as I know how hard it is to get the colorant from root to tip of the hair, but when I actually applied the color mix, it was very easy to coat the hair, root to end.  It felt a bit like applying a thick oil to the hair and it went on VERY evenly.

Marti:  The first thing I noticed was the pleasant smell.  Usually dye has a harsh smell, but this was very nice.  I could also feel the difference as Jeannette was applying the color to my hair, a slick, thick, almost oily feeling.  Not at all what I was used to with the foam colors.

Jeannette:  As the person applying I am having to step back several times from the intense chemical smell of dyes, but this time I had no problem at all.  It didn’t irritate my nose or eyes, and does in fact have a fairly nice smell to it.  Also, when dying hair, you end up getting it on skin to some degree at the hair line.  A trade secret my daughter taught me was to use a little dye from my hair to rub on the skin to wipe it off any residual color, with cotton or a tissue (dye removes dye).  However, this wiped right off, without any hard rubbing, very easily on a tissue!

Marti:  After the processing time, my next surprise was the post-treatment.  WOW!  It is thick, almost like a soft margarine, and felt amazing in my hair!  I couldn’t believe how great my hair felt after as well, very soft as opposed to a dry, straw like feeling I’m used too after coloring.

Jeannette:  I was really happy how it didn’t drip during processing and it rinses out very easily!  And that post-treatment, feels like whipped butter, rinses out super easily, and even my hands are soft from it!  Both of us have soft, shiny hair too, which is something I have never seen with other brands.  It is multi-tonal as well, like natural hair color.  As the light hits it you see reds, browns etc, varying shades like you would if this was your own hair and not an applied color.

We are both highly impressed, and cannot say enough about it!  Once again, Avon has surpassed our expectations!

Brochure Tossing My Way

My sister and fellow Avon representative and I are always brain storming ways to get our brochures into the hands of potential customers.  One of our favorite ways is the stick our brochure in the plastic literature bag, fold over the top and then roll and rubber band it like a newspaper.  Then we load up 300-400 brochures each in boxes, pack the car and go 'toss' them like newspapers into driveways.  We each have specific streets or neighborhoods that we toss in, but going together means we can do both sides of the street at the same time, one tossing out each side of the car.  In less than an hour we've distributed 600-800 brochures then we head home.

I know that a lot of representatives think this is not a good way to do this, that each brochure should be hung on the door or the doorbell rang and it handed to the potential customer.  But so far it has proven to be profitable to us.  We each gather several new customers with every campaign this way.  After 3 campaigns we move to a new area for a while. 

Once someone orders the first time, we consider them an established customer and the approach for distribution is different.  If you've ordered from us, we no longer roll and toss, but we get out of the car and hang the brochure on the front door handle.  Inside the bag is our customer newsletter for that campaign, the brochure(s) and samples.  We've also decided that we will do this to the 2 houses on either side of the established customer and include a note that says "I was dropping off a brochure to my customer, your neighbor, and wanted to be sure to leave you one too!".  We also offer a discount then on their first order.

The tossing can be a real adventure for us.  While most of the time the paper boy or girl has nothing on us as far as aim, once in a while we fail.  If there is a puddle anywhere near the driveway it is safe to assume one of us can hit it without trying.  Every so often on lands in a bush too, requiring a stop to retrieve and place it nicely on the driveway. 

While on our tossing outing we will also go through the drive-thru at McDonald's or Burger King and hand a brochure to the worker there.  Many places have 2 windows, one to pay and one to pickup the food or drinks.  That is 2 brochure hand-offs.

We enjoy the radio, laugh a lot and have a fantastic time with our tossing days. 

I never imagined that at 48 (very nearly 49) years old I'd be an Avon Lady, driving around bonding with my sister as we tossed our brochures.  But it is one of my favorite parts of the job, spending time with my younger sister as we work toward building our dreams.

Nurture It And It Will Grow!

I stay in touch at least every other day, if not every day, with my team. Not just my first generation down line, but all the way to the 3rd generation. I try to email inspiring things, share ideas and do all that I can to help them build their business.

Today I have an appointment set to potentially sign 5 recruits. I say potentially because often in this business, people are enthusiastic when you call, you set a time, confirm that time, and they don't show up. I succeed in spite of the set backs, I don't get discouraged and I plow on ahead. It's how I roll and when I have a goal, I keep rolling.

I cannot make anyone show up. Once they are signed on, I cannot force them to get out there and find customers and work their Avon business. I can encourage, assist, train, etc, but they have to get up, pick up the ball and make the basket to score the points.

A Day In The Life Of The Avon Lady

What a day this has been!

It actually started last evening. My sister and fellow representative and I were breaking open boxes of campaign 5 brochures to prep them for today. We use address/email/phone number labels and then write the dates on the brochures. Once those are finished, we stick them in plastic bags, roll them up like newspapers and rubber band them. Then we go and toss them in driveways.

She had 300 to distribute, I did 500. This is a lengthy process to prepare them all, we do this while watching TV in the evenings so that we're able to be productive and still catch our favorite shows.

Then we drive and toss. It takes time and some muscle, and frankly dogged determination. Every once in a while we get those emails or phone calls, "stop littering my driveway with yours ads." It always makes me wonder, do they call the "Door Store" and tell them this? I doubt it. Some days it is hard to remember to think like a rhino, grow 2 inch thick skin, and let those types be spit balls on a battle ship. After all, I'm at least WORKING and not receiving a welfare check from these people's and others tax money. Really, if you don't want it, throw it away! Takes thick skin to be in this business some days. But then my idol, Lisa Wilber, says go for the no. So, that is one 'no' out of 800 homes we gave Avon brochures too.

Then we went prospecting. I love being out and about and having someone spy my Avon shirt and button and ask me if I sell Avon and if so could they have a brochure. That one cheerful, sweet person makes up fast for the others. I asked her if she had ever considered selling Avon, and of course she had not. So, she got my other information too.

Our orders for our customers are ready for delivery, and those will be delivered later this evening.

While in between things, I phoned 2 prospects, left messages, and set up on appointment with a recruit, and have one that rescheduled due to illness.

Now I am home, working on getting my newsletter together and added to those orders going out to customers.

In a bit we'll be off to the grocery store to do the shopping. Yes, I will hunt down prospects there too for both customers and recruits.

All in all, I do LOVE this job!

Dermatologist Recommends Avon Product On Dr. Oz

Dr. Oz had on a dermatologist Thursday that recommended one of Avon's products, Anew Clinical Advanced Retexturizing Peel for fighting wrinkles!  She said it is similar to what she uses in her office but obviously far more affordable through your Avon representative.

She most likely was unaware, since these shows are filmed in advance, of the new products we have now on the market, Anew Clinical Resurfacing Expert Smoothing Fluid!  The peel is once a week to twice a week, but the Resurfacing Fluid is a daily (evening and morning) product.
